Secrets of the Sun

In 1991Michael W. Barnard began filming a documentary about Los Angeles sculptor Peter Erskine’s attempt to create a new form of art that would address the then-unfamiliar notion of global climate change. Peter ultimately created a new form of environmental art he called “Secrets of the Sun”. This work uses space-age passive technology to create astoundingly pure spectrum color from sunlight. Erskine decided to do his first installation of this art at the famous Trajan’s market’s within the Roman Forum. Los Angeles art collector Fred Weisman underwrote this first installation and journeyed to Rome for the opening in the spring of 1992.
This 12-minute promo for a full-length film and television special was put together in the Spring of 2011.
