Building the Future

Starting in 1996 Michael Barnard and his associates at LightningBolt PIX documented the design and building of the I.M. Pei-designed Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Shooting was completed in the Fall of 2008. Over this time period BoltPIX amassed over 300 hours of High Definition footage about this unique $1 billion architectural project. “Building the Future.” (2001)  is a short (16 minute) fund-raising film which, using archived project footage along with SGI digital animations from the Urban Simulation Lab at UCLA,  tells the basic story about this inspiring project. In June of 2008, nearly 400 patients were moved into the new  hospital and the BoltPIX crews were there documenting that historic occasion. A feature film is now being prepared about this project,
